There is some discomfort associated with PMU treatments, so we employ the highest standards of hygiene and professionalism to guarantee your comfort and safety. Here is our aftercare guide so that you know what to expect after your PMU treatment and how you can keep the results looking their best for a long time to come:
General Aftercare Guidelines
1. Apply a thin film of A&D Ointment, Neosporin, Bacitracin, or the like 3 times a day for the next 3 days after your PMU treatment. After those 3 days, use a hand lotion like Dermassage or Noxema until your skin returns to its pre-tattoo condition.
2. Stay out of sunlight and tanning booths for at least 7-10 days, or until the tattoo is healed.
3. Do not soak your tattoo in a tub, sauna, or Jacuzzi, or go swimming while your new tattoo is healing. The showers are fine.
4. Do not rub or pick the treated area while it is healing. Loss of color and/or infection could occur.
5. Extreme sun and exposure over the years can and will fade your tattoo. This can be minimized by using a strong sunscreen of at least SPF 25.
6. Your tattoo should heal in 2 weeks. Consult a physician if any signs or symptoms develop such as the following: redness at the treatment site, foul-smelling green/yellow discharge, and/or fever.
Permanent Makeup Daily Aftercare Schedule
Day 1:
After your PMU treatment, you can expect some dark coloration in the treatment area, along with some light swelling. The extent of the swelling will depend on your skin type and sensitivity. At this point, all you need to do is to keep the treatment area clean and dry and away from any direct sunlight. There is no need to soak the treatment area with water and you must avoid the use of any ointments, lotions, or moisturizers. The same goes for any other skin products or makeup and beauty products. All you need to do is let your skin breathe and recover on its own.
Day 2:
On the second day, the dark coloration will persist in the treated area, along with some dried skin. At this point, ointment can be applied liberally to keep the treatment area moisturized and speed up the healing process. You may apply a thick layer of ointment before taking a shower to keep water from soaking into the treatment area. Avoid any unnecessary touching or rubbing of the treatment area. Again, stay away from direct sunlight, and refrain from using sunscreen, makeup, cleanser, and any other skin products.
Day 3:
By the third day, the peeling process will start around the treatment area. This could last for up to 2 days. During this period, your skin may be dry and itchy, and the color pigments from your permanent makeup treatment may appear uneven, too light, or not at all. For this phase, we recommend following the same aftercare procedures as on Day 2. Apply the ointment often for the next 7 days.
Days 4-45:
During Days 4 to 45, the color from your permanent makeup treatment will begin to show up slowly. During the early days, it may appear uneven, or have a lighter or darker color than expected. You can use light makeup and sunscreen from the 5th day going forward. After the 7th day, you can use a skin cleanser. Avoid direct sunlight or swimming during this period.
Days 46-60:
Sometime between Days 46 and 60, the expected color from your permanent makeup treatment starts to develop and fill out nicely and evenly. From this point on, you can proceed with your normal daily skincare routine.
